Hi,

I am new to BIRT reporting and have analysed BIRT 2.6.2 birt VIEWER for my project.
I would like to use BIRT Viewer in my project. But problem I am facing currently is that our project requires implementation to be 3 - tier architecture. Whereas BIRT Viewer is 2-tier.
Can anybody help me with solution to this? Is there any opensource implementation for BIRT in 3- tier available for use?
Wouls it be good idea to use BIRT API and create vutom project instead of using BIRT viewer?

Please help me out with your valuable suggestions.

Can you give some more detail on how you want it to run?

Hello Jason,

I want to have 3 - tier architecture inplemented in my project and wopuld like to use BIRT Viewer provided for this purpose.
After analysing the BIRT Viewer, I found that this application is having VIEW as well as business logic packaged in single ear / war.
Now my project needs to seperate the components in Web and application layer. More over the comunication between these 2 layers has to be through RMI IIOP port.

my question is that as many of the applications these days are based on 3- tier architecture, do we have any application (similar to BIRT Viewer) which can be used?

Also wanted to know that newer version of BIRT is described as POJO. Would it be helpful from architecture point of view to work on latest version of BIRT?

Can you help me with some reference materials from which I can understand the flow of BIRT Viewer application. Basically I would like to know technical flow of BIRT Viewer application.

Kunal,

I am not certain what parts you would want to separate. The viewer is
built on top of the Report Engine API, so you can always write your own
app using these same APIs. The POJO runtime of the latest version of
BIRT uses a simplified scheme of just jars instead of starting up a
complete OSGi runtime for the web app.
