Hi

I've been having issues with Eclipse 3.6 & 3.7 on Ubuntu 11.04.

I'm on ubuntu 64bits on a desktop and use Gnome ("ubuntu classic"), not Unity.

I might be working away inside eclipse when without warning eclipse just exits, no warning, error mnessage, or prompt to save files, etc.

Any ideas what might be wrong here?
How can I debug it or view some log files that I could post here?

Thanks

That's not gonna work. You need a "real" JDK from Orackle or IBM!

Ok thanks Michael.

What one would you recommend, Oracle or IBM?

Any useful links you would recommend on installing new JRE on Ubuntu?

Hi

I always used the Sun/Orace SDKs on Ununtu. AFAIK they are available in
the Ubuntu software store / apt sources, but I always preferred a
direct download from Oracle.

Ok, I installed the Sun implementation through the Ubuntu Synaptic package manager.

Hopefully eclipse will be more stable for me now.

Thanks guys

It looks like you're seeing
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=345979 , which was
recently fixed in the 3.7.1 and 3.8 streams. So a build like
http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops/M20110825-0847/index.php
should work better for you.
