Hi,

I would very much appreciate if someone on the TPTP project could
comment on the status of the AGR. From the outside it appears to me that
progress has pretty much come to a standstill. Has the project been
suspended or can we anticipate renewed activity? I know that the project
is a Technology preview and from what I can ascertain there is not a
formal commit to deliverables with specific target dates. Still it would
very useful for us (and probably other interested parties) if there was
some sort of indication on where the project is headed.

We have been using AGR quite seriously and have found it to be a great
tool, so I would really hate to see it stop growing.

Thanks,
Joel

It may appear it's at a stand-still from the outside, but that is
probably a by-product of the impending "Callisto Release" where our 4.2
release will join 9 other Eclipse releases (include 3.2 of the Platform)
in one grand and glorious "simultaneous release" at the end of the month.

To get 10 projects released simultaneously is a huge undertaking (there
are a lot of people doing a LOT of testing right now!), and it
necessitates "breathing room" of sorts. Thus, though we've more-or-less
been "finished" with TPTP 4.2 for a while now, we've been going through
coordinated efforts putting out Callisto "release candidates" (RC) for
several weeks. This all culminates with "the" Callisto release at the
end of June.

(For the curious, go see how many platforms we support... then go look
at the test plans for a given platform... then calculate the effort
involved in validating each RC as it is prepared. That's a LOT of effort!)

Meanwhile... back at the ranch... 4.3 planning is underway, and you're
not alone in your interest in AGR. If you check out the main Eclipse
TPTP page you can find links to that 4.3 planning process. Part of that
is a list of enhancement requests, and people (sorry, I'd have to look
it up to narrow it down more clearly as to just which people...) have
been allowed to vote on those enhancements.

AGR won in a landslide; that's the universally accepted position I've
seen taken. Last I looked, "the" AGR bugzilla had ~117 votes (and it's
debatable whether 2 or 3 others are really all just pointers to that
same effort... totaling a 10-20 more votes or so), AC for MacOS had ~55
votes, and it trailed off from there. Stuff I know we really have/need
to do has a few votes, if you need a point of reference! AGR is quite
popular. Go Ali!! :-)

Of course, desire and interest are one thing; rubber meeting the road is
another. I know that several have pointed out that interest in the form
of contributed code and actual involvement is the *sincerest* form of
voting for a project... so all you lurkers out there who want this
consider contributing in even more substantial ways! (Hmmmm, reading
this, I realize you might get the wrong idea. Please don't send me
money! I'd just have to send it back! :-) )

So... yes, it "appears" to be stagnate, but that is far from the truth.
AGR is still very much the "hot seat" as far as TPTP is concerned!

Brilliant! :-) :-) :-)

That's exactly what I _wanted_ to here. And, Randy, thank you very much
for such a complete reply, it is very much appreciated.

Cheers,
Joel

Randy,

Thanks for the exhaustive and extremely positive reply!

We are great fans of AGR; whilst unfortunately we do not have the
bandwidth, at least at the moment, to contribute to AGR "in more
substantial ways" (not even the money!... ;-), we are very willing to
contribute to serious user testing of the forthcoming releases.

Thanks once again.

Cheerio,
B.
