Hello,
I need to write a plugin to display Excel spreadsheet and optionally print
it out in Linux env. It looks like OpenOffice's CALC might do the trick.
Unfortunately, I have no experience in OO. Two questions in this regard:

1. Is CALC a substitute for Excel (i.e. can it handle .xls/.xlsx files)?
2. Does anyone have experience in developing a plugin for CALC? Any pointers
to Web resources with examples/do's/don’t's/gotchas etc.?

Thanks a lot for any clues.
