Hi All,

I am having a bit of an odd issue. I have tried reinstalling the JDK and removing and downloading installs from different mirrors for Eclipse for JEE. It basically never makes it past the splash screen.

It says "An error has occurred. See the log file C:\Program Files\eclipse\configuration\1307709829271.log"

Looked in this log and it says:

I did some googling, and many think it is a setting in my .ini files. Tried their suggests with no luck, then reverted settings back to defaults.

Could anyone assist me with what may be wrong? Eclipse for Java works fine, but I found out I will need Eclipse for Java EE instead.

Thank you!

Should mention that I have tried making the log file look like this:
-startup
plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.1.1.R36x_v20101122_1400.jar
--launcher.library
plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_1.1.2.R36x_v20101222
-product
org.eclipse.epp.package.jee.product
--launcher.defaultAction
openFile
--launcher.XXMaxPermSize
256M
-showsplash
org.eclipse.platform
--launcher.XXMaxPermSize
256m
--launcher.defaultAction
openFile
-vm
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_25\bin\javaw.exe
-vmargs
-Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.5
-Xms40m
-Xmx512m

I tried following what was on the sticky with no real luck. I'll try using java.exe or other ones instead, but I don't think that's working.

How do you mean? I still see the original post anyway. I can quote in a separate post if you want.

I had this exact same issue on win32.

Turns out my issue was due to the JDK shipped with Oracle Weblogic 11g being on the path, and eclipse trying to use that during it's own bootstrapping/ first time run.

When I unpacked the install .zip, and subsequently modified my eclipse.ini to point to a specific Sun JVM that I had lurking around, then it ran fine.

However once I had got the error, it had corrupted something in the install. You need to unzip the install .ZIP file again somewhere clean and modify your eclipse.ini BEFORE you attempt to run eclipse.exe.

Just in case anyone else has a similar issue.

Contents of my revised eclipse.ini - amended line in bold:

-startup
plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.1.1.R36x_v20101122_1400.jar
--launcher.library
plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_1.1.2.R36x_v20101222
-product
org.eclipse.epp.package.jee.product
--launcher.defaultAction
openFile
--launcher.XXMaxPermSize
256M
-showsplash
org.eclipse.platform
--launcher.XXMaxPermSize
256m
--launcher.defaultAction
openFile
-vm C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_01\bin
-vmargs
-Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.5
-Xms40m
-Xmx512m

And the error i got is below if anyone is interested:
