While the milestone 7 for Eclipse Indigo (3.7) is currently being finalized,
the corresponding milestone release of the OTDT is already on the server.
For those who got confused by the back-and-forth movements: yes,
Object Teams is part of the Indigo release train.
Thus, what I wrote in Object Teams is on the Train to Indigo is true as of M7.
I also made initial tests of using Object Teams in Eclispe 4.1 and results look very good.
Before we can declare our final release a formal release review is required.
In this particular case I'll apply for project graduation, i.e., with this review we
plan to leave the Incubation phase. The next release should then be OTDT 2.0.0
to clearly mark: that is the next big step after our 1.4 release from objectteams.org.
As a baseline for that release I'm planning to also freeze a version of the language
definition (OTJLD). While preparing the review documentation I scanned open
bugzillas and found three issues that would actually involve OTJLD changes:
- Bug 316616 - [compiler][otre] OT/J: support for callin-interception of constructor-calls
- Bug 322904 - Support callout bindings for constructors
- Bug 337413 - [otjld][compiler] consider changing LiftingFailedException to a checked exception
Please let me know if you'd like to use any of these future features.
Otherwise, my current planning for these issues is:
- wait for the true runtime weaver to be mature and re-consider then
- not too difficult but a rare corner case, thus low priority
- planning to do some experiments to assess the impact; might actually
still fit into the release
That's it for today,
Happy updating and let me know what you think.
