Strange p2 update issue [message #652556]

We've encountered an interesting issue.
Our RCP app is p2 enabled. We have a minimal product installed, and features installed outside of the product (roots?).
Clean install, I deliberately installed the product and old version features.
When I use "Check for Updates", 'There is nothing to update.'
When I use About, Installation Details, Installed Software, I can select the features, Click update...Updates are found and do update successfully.
Can anyone suggest why "Check for Updates" isn't finding updates?

3.5.1, using org.eclipse.equinox.p2.user.ui as is.

I'm not able to update my application by "Check for updates". I tried your way to update but this doesn't work either.

Did you already find out something?
