I've been trying this for a few days I get the following error:

An error occurred while installing the items
session context was:(profile=PlatformProfile,
phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.provisional.p2.engine.pha ses.Install,
operand=null --> [R]org.eclipse.ant.ui 3.4.1.v20090901_r351,
action=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.touchpoint.eclipse.ac tions.InstallBundleAction).
The artifact file for
osgi.bundle,org.eclipse.ant.ui,3.4.1.v20090901_r351 was not found.

Not sure what this is.

Nope, I can't get it either. Very frustrating. I hate this P2 stuff. Give me a zip file any day.

An error occurred while collecting items to be installed
session context was:(profile=SDKProfile, phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.engine.phases.Collect, operand=, action=).

You can try this p2 site: https://hudson.eclipse.org/hudson/job/egit/lastSuccessfulBui ld/artifact/org.eclipse.egit-updatesite/target/site/

There you can also download the site as a zip file (be careful, this is the nightly build directly from hudson).

Follow up: I had this problem with the Eclipse that was installed by
Ubuntu Software center, ubuntu 9.10. I downloaded a more up to date build
of Eclipse from the eclipse builds page and installed eGit successfully
using it.
