I noticed a post a while back about some initial working running ECF within
eRCP. I'm very interested in this. Do the two projects have compatible
requirements? I think eRCP has Java ME Foundation Profile as the minimum
environment. Would ECF be supported on FP right now or would that require a
port? Anyone know of work that's being done with ECF on embedded systems or
mobile devices (other than the Nokia 770 mentioned in an earlier message)?

Hi David,

ECF committer Chris Aniszczyk is on the eRCP team and he had mentioned
his intention to check ECF against the ME profile. I don't know if he's
done it yet. If memory serves I *think* ECF would work with only the ME
profile (at least some providers...probably not all...as the providers
have varying runtime requirements).

Also, as you point out there was also some work by Ken Gilmer on using
ECF on portable devices:

http://dev.eclipse.org/mhonarc/lists/ecf-dev/msg00238.html

Chris and/or Ken can you comment on this?

Thanks,

Scott

The Nokia 770 thing was running Equinox on top of Jamvm and GNU
Classpath, but I did not investigate any eRCP functionality. I imagine
that since the 770 runs GTK widgets, it would be at least possible...

Unfortunately, no one has yet stepped up to do a GTK port of eSWT, so I
think the 770 is out for the time being as an eRCP platform. But I'm eager
to know if ECF can be made to work on the Foundation Profile VMs available
for Windows Mobile and Nokia S80. This will open up some really interesting
possibilities for mobile/desktop collaborations.

No, but there is a start on the QTe implementation
http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/org.eclipse.ercp/or g.eclipse.ercp.swt.core.qte/?cvsroot=DSDP_Project

Contributions are always welcome ;)

Cheers,

~ Chris
