I think it makes sense to build (and maintain) an Xtext-based emfatic,
rather than continue with the original gymnast framework, since Xtext is
mature and popular. Perhaps Andy's version could be promoted to the
official one, or become an incubator with a plan of promoting it? What
would it take to do such a thing? Ed?

Absolutely! :-)
We plan to move and enhance the textual syntax for ecore we have in the
Xtext repository (not released). But maybe Andy's work is a better
basis. Let's see.
