Is it possible to run an eclipse action (or command) triggered from something else than a Workbench user? I want my plug-in to communicate with another external application. The other application may ask for example to shut down Eclipse. So I want to run the QUIT action defined in org.eclipse.ui.actions.ActionFactory.

But to create this action I need an IWorkbenchWindow instance which in turn requires an ExecutionEvent object and the call to runWithEvent() method I need an Event object.

I'm new to Eclipse Plug-in development so I searched for some examples but the only things I found so far are actions triggered by menu items, buttons and short-cut keys. And in these cases the framework provides all necessary instances and objects. But how do I do in my case?
