Is there anyway to protect the platform from views and/or perspectives that take too long to open or, worse, crash then they open?

My initial idea was to start a background timer thread and if a perspective takes too long to open than to somehow interrupt the display thread. But I can't figure out how one might actually go ahead an interrupt the display thread to wake up from the badly behaving view or perspective.

Any ideas? Anybody tackled a similar problem?
