I need to add a vertical marker on the x-axis based on a date/time and event took place, however, the x-axis market appears to only accept an integer value making it difficult to accurately place the marker as the date range varies each day.

How do I enter the marker value as a date-time value? The format option appears to recognise the axis as a date-time but the value only acceots integers.

That is correct. Marker lines use the category index not the data
value. You can dynamically match the two in the afterDataSetFilled
event. I just wrote up a Birt-Exchange entry for this. Take a look:
