Hello everyone,

I was wondering if there is any way to automaticly convert a doc-file into
eclipse help files to deploy them in an infocenter? Has anyone done this?
If yes how?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Christian

Hi Christian,

I assume that "doc-file" means a Microsoft Word .doc file format.

Is it a requirement that the tool be no cost or open source?

I have not done such an automatic conversion myself, nor am aware of a
tool that automatically goes from .doc to Eclipse help in one step.
There was an earlier thread on this newsgroup about processing the Word
file to XML first, and then tools would convert from the resulting XML
to Eclipse help.

The previous thread has subject "General help documentation development
question". The beginning post is at URL:
http://dev.eclipse.org/newslists/news.eclipse.platform.ua/ms g00331.html

and then you can use "Next by thread" links to see the follow-up posts.

There are tools that seem to be add-ons to Word that will take a Word
file to DocBook XML or DITA XML:
- Information Mapping's Content Mapper tool
(http://www.infomap.com/index.cfm/Software/ContentMapper)
- In.Vision's Xpress Author tool
(http://www.invisionresearch.com/products.html)

And then once in DocBook or DITA, there are tools that will convert that
XML to Eclipse help.

Hope this helps,
Lee Anne
