UML2Tools Readiness [message #470870] Fri, 25 May 2007 09:36 Go to next message

Hi,

I'm going to develop a plugin that will extend UML2, UML2Tools and use
UML2-OCL. However I'm still not sure about how ready UML2Tools is.
Because the connector function does not work and this is a key feature of a
component diagram. Basically, my question is how safe is it to develop a
plugin that uses UML2Tools considering it's not finished yet. And how will
future changes affect the existing functionlity of the plugin. Basically if
I use/extend
UML2Tools, is there a risk that things will change and I will have to change
my plugin (later) as a consequence?

I got this from the MDT page: The first release of MDT is tentatively
scheduled for the end of June, 2007.
Does that also mean that UML2Tools will be finished by that time?

thx for any reply.

Nick

Hi Nick Kirtley!

In accordance with
http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Europa#Milestones_and_Rele ase_Candidates
Europa Project will be released on June 29. As UML2Tools Project is a part
of Europe then UML2Tools will be released in the very end of June.

UML2Tools developers were focused on Class, StateMachine and Profile diagram
in the last milestones. These disgrams are on their RCs. Component Diagram
almost wasn't touched. Definitely Component Diagram will have a lot of
changes soon.

Safe or not safe to develop with UML2Tools is a question which answers vary
in a different situations. I hope the given information will help you to
make your decision.

Best wishes,
Tatiana.

Hi Tatiana and others,

Does it mean that component diagrams will also be functional by the end of
June? Are component diagrams also part of current RCs?

Thanks
Ahmad

Hi all!

As Component Diagram is a part of UML2Tools development plan
( http://www.eclipse.org/modeling/mdt/docs/plans/mdt_project_p lan_1_0.html#_UML2_Tools_)
it will be ready by the end of June.

The next milestone of the UML2Tools (RC2) will be in the end of the week.
There is a little probability, a hope in fact, that we will fix Component
Diagram. Such situation is related with big changes in GMF Tools in last
milestones.

Component Diagram is a part of RC build. But ComponentD functionality is
broken.

Best regards,
Tatiana.
