profiling a webapp eat's up 100% CPU and slows down the AUT [message #45833] Fri, 09 December 2005 21:18 Go to next message

Hello,

I have to help a team with tuning up their e-shop and today I found the
TPTP so I installed it with joy (TPTP 4.1) on my Eclipse 3.1.0 + WebTools
0.7 bundle. I used the new feature of profiling locally (without starting
up the agent) and sadly the minute I started the collecting data my
webapp's response times went up by 2-3 magnitudes. I have a filter that
prints the time that it took to process the request, so before starting
the profiler I had eg. 200ms, after starting monitoring it went up to
50000. That efectively didn't allow me to run any automated tests. I did
everything like in the
http://eclipse.org/tptp/home/downloads/quicktour/v41/viewlet s/EW-profile/EW-profile/EW-profile_viewlet_swf.html
only, for obvious reasons, I didn't run the automated tests but clicked
manually.

I tried it while collecting only memory data or only time data, I filtered
all the other packages classes out, this shop isn't very big, I don't see
any rationale why would it happen.

Please tell me if this is normal, or give me any hints on the subject as
I'd really like to have this working in my eclipse.

Best regards,
Wojtek Biela

IAC (i.e. Local Direct Connection) suffers from some performance problems
that should be addressed in the near future. For now, I would try and use
the Remote Agent Controller (RAC) instead. Make sure you have RAC running
and you get a 'connection success' message after testing your connection
on localhost:10002 before profiling.
