The graying out signifies decaying interest. The files that you don't
use are deemed less and less relevant for the current task. This is an
important part of the Mylyn productivity gain: hide what you don't need/use.

You can switch this of entirely in the package explorer by clicking the
3 circle button in the top or deselecting Focus on Active Task in the
view menu. This Focus on Active Task button can also be found in other
views: outline, java editor, problems, tasks, etc.

I have recently had sight issues and I am trying to setup a dark background and light foreground color scheme in Eclipse, but I am seeing greyed out package names which start as black and are almost immediately redrawn in this faint grey which I cannot see. I just want the system default foreground color to be used always.

Disabling the "Focus on Active Task" has no effect on the package name greying. It seems I have found how to affect every other color but this one and the permanent grey of the menu backgrounds. Any help would be appreciated.

that sounds like something we need to look into and very similar to this
request:

321336: Change the highlight color black in the inactive task-focused view
mode

It would be much appreciate if you added your requirements to the bug above.

I know this topic is quite old. Anyway, I am using the Luna version of eclipse, and looks like this is not solved.

A solution I found was disabling the Interest decorator:
Preferences->General->Appearance->Label Decorators->disable "Task Context Decorator"
