Dear Eclipse Modelers,|
Come to share your modeling courseware in the new GMT OMCW area:
OMCW (Open Model CourseWare) is a new GMT component intended as an active
and interactive repository for open source teaching and learning artifacts
The rationale for opening the OMCW collaborative sharing area on modeling
courseware stems from the fact that there is an increasing demand on such
material. Many universities are building up sequences of modeling courses
for different levels while industry engineers and consultant realize that
introducing Model Driven Engineering (MDE) practices request not only good
tools but also high quality education.
The format for the material contributed to OMCW is free, but all
contributions should be easily updatable (pdf is accepted but not
encouraged) in order that the various courses could be easily adapted for
different audiences and usages. All the contributions should be made under
the EPL 1.0 license and there will be no exception to this. (see
http://www.eclipse.org/org/documents/epl-v10.php). The mention of this
should be made explicit in each contributed item.
Some of the initial resources are coming from European projects (like
ModelWare, ModelPlex), but this initiative will really work only if plenty
of authors accept to share their pedagogical resources. The authors, their
organizations and universities, may obviously be mentioned in the files.
This is specially important for getting feedback on the use of their
contribution. The recommended language for the OMCW courseware is english
(other languages like french, german, spanish could be accepted but this
practice is not encouraged).
There is no exclusivity in the contributed resources. If there is already an
OMCW course on a given subject and if you have another course on the same
subject that you may offer to the community, please go ahead. Your
contribution may bring a new perspective or provide more information. You
may also wish to collaborate in improving the available resources, for
example by posting suggestions or using classical Bugzilla mechanisms.
The initial organization of the OMCW courseware repository is currently made
of 17 chapters. This is just an initial proposal that may be changed
according to future suggestions. Some chapters may be added while others may
be deleted. The initial organization may be accessed from:
http://www.eclipse.org/gmt/omcw/resources/. Note that many chapters are
presently empty and will hopefully receive contributions soon.
The following list is intended to give some ideas of what may be now found
in the OMCW repository:
What is XMI?
What is MOF?
http://www.eclipse.org/gmt/omcw/resources/chapter04/download s/MOF%20for%20MODELWARE%20York%20-%20July%202006%20rev%2002. ppt
What are UML profiles?
How to build UML profiles,
What is JMI?
Where can I find an introductory course on metamodeling?
What is OCL?
What is QVT?
There are many tutorials on modeling already available on the Web, for
example tutorials to the various EclipseCons, that are already under EPL,
like tutorials on EMF, GMF, M2M, Teneo, etc. We hope that authors of these
tutorial may contribute them soon to OMCW so that most courseware teaching
resources could be easily located in a common place.
The discussion group for the modeling courseware is the GMT project.
Remember when you post to this Eclipse newsgroup to add the [OMCW] component
prefix at the beginning of the subject line as is done in the current post.
We look forward to your suggestions, contributions and active participation
to this OMCW initiative.
Best regards to all,
Jean Bezivin & Hugo Bruneliere
