Launching a profile configuration opens a new window? [message #31931] Mon, 19 September 2005 22:20 Go to next message

Is there any way to make it open the profiling perspective in the active
workbench window instead of creating a new one? Couldn't find an option that
controls that.

Thanks,
Vladimir.

Are you saying that a new workbench pops up when you profile? This is
most likely because you're profiling a run-time workbench. i.e. The
launch configuration you're profiling is for a run-time workbench. RAC
simply starts up a new workbench when you click on the profile button. To
avoid this, profile a Java launch configuration instead. If you want your
current workbench to switch to the profiling and logging perspective when
you profile, complete the following steps:

Click on windows -> preferences -> Profiling and Logging -> under 'switch
to associated perspective when profiling or importing logs', select
'always' -> click on OK

No. I'm profiling a simple hello-world like Java application. If I launch
profiling from within Java perspective this opens a new workbench window
that contains only single profiling perspective. This new window belongs to
the original workbench process, not a new workbench process since it doesn't
exist, so I end up with 2 workbench windows that belong to the same process.
However, if profiling is launched from within the profiling perspective it
just starts right there, no new window is opened. Anyway, it is not a big
issue. What's more troubling is that I cannot get UML diagrams working, see
my other post. Thanks.

After re-installing Eclipse 3.1, TPTP, EMF, etc., starting on a clean
workspace this no longer happens. The UML sequence diagrams also work now.
There was some sort of conflict I guess.Could it be because of AspectJ? It
was the only extra add-on I had in the previous config in addition to TPTP
and the plugins it requires. Up and running now. Thanks.

I was going to suggest that you use a clean build. This is the first time
I've heard about this problem. With all the interactions involved, it's
hard to tell what was actually causing it. I'm glad you got it working :)
