Hi,

It seems as if the task list now shows some bugs as sub tasks.
I find this terrible because I can't recognize active sub tasks anymore.
How can I disable that?

BTW if I enter a find pattern in the task list the nested bugs are shown
as top level bugs, too.
But they disppear when I clear the find pattern ;-(

In general I believe it'd be good if new features that conflict with
expected behaviour can be turned of.

Why have you chosen to nest the bug that has to be fixed first into the
bug that depends on the first?
Not very practical in my opinion.

Cheers

Forgot to mention that it'd also be good if the active task is revealed
and selected when i click
on te active task link in the task list (in addition to opening the task
editor).

See the first screenshot in the New & Noteworthy for disabling the
"Group Subtasks" option:

This is partly by design, but I agree that it doesn't quite meet
expectations for Bugzilla, so please file a bug against the Bugzilla
component on that.

> In general I believe it'd be good if new features that conflict with

We try to reduce option bloat as much as we can. In this case we had
significant evidence that some people preferred a flat task listing and
others a nested one, so we made sure that this was an option via the
accessible via the Task List's view menu. I think the problem here was
that the behavior changed without your noticing, which I agree can be
disorienting. Currently our only mechanism for informing the user of
changes is the New & Noteworthy, which this was listed in. If you have
ideas on how to better inform users of changes of this sort please post.
Now and then I wonder if we should have a dialog or some other sort of
indication that pro-actively points the user at the New & Noteworthy,
but those can be annoying.

> Why have you chosen to nest the bug that has to be fixed first into the

This is in accordance with suggested usage of depends-on and blocks
(i.e. a task is not done until subtasks are done). It reflects usage in
Mozilla's Bugzilla and on the Mylyn project. The corresponding bug is:

151655: make dependent bug reports show up as subtasks in task list
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=151655

If our current approach does not meet your expectations or Bugzilla
usage please comment either on this thread or there, since others could
be in the same boat and so we should at least add a FAQ entry.

It seems, both the official 2.1 release and the Weekly Build (already
labels itself 2.2.x) don't work with 3.4M2 and WTP 3 correctly?!

Nothing can be installed and the errors shown by Update Manager don't
seem to make much sense:

The current configuration contains errors and this operation can have
unpredictable results.
WST Web Services UI (2.0.1.v200710021354-792EGwAufYO8FqYlmS_5Ff4sbiKz)
requires plug-in "org.eclipse.gef (3.2.0)", or compatible.
WTP Web Page Editor (1.1.0.v200709202235-3-29oA55P855A) requires
plug-in "org.eclipse.gef (3.2.0)", or compatible.
Java Persistence API Tools (1.1.0.v200709170000-772AgCYQCCz-D_LoCCEH)
requires feature "org.eclipse.datatools.connectivity.feature".
WST Common UI (2.1.0.v200709192200-7C6EIaE9RvTVninpsnWz0WgQZgle)
requires plug-in "org.eclipse.draw2d (3.2.0)", or compatible.
Eclipse XML Editors and Tools
(2.1.0.v200709192200-7A3EIPCnbckz0itrBsMmAKQjdclf) requires plug-in
"org.eclipse.gef (3.2.0)", or compatible.

At least the WTP Web Page Editor does however work correctly.

Installing both Mylyn 2.x releases over a 'naked' 3.4M2 works.
One can even copy such updates manually over the WTP 3 installation, but
while Mylyn works there too as far as I can see, adding further
components like 'Exras' fails with the same error (pointing to Web Page
Editor)

I might be able to raise this Bug (not sure, which part is the actual
reason for it, but it only manifests itself when trying to install Mylyn
so far) using a working Mylyn installation somewhere, too...

Thanks and Regards,
Werner

Werner, I assume that you are using the ../e3.4 update sites.

Please do file a bug since this is odd (Mylyn has no dependencies on
WTP) and we should investigate.

Something similar. The Project Explorer context focused UI also seems
to stop working with the WTP J2EE plugins installed. It works fine
with just the WST plugins only installed. I noticed this after
installing 2.1 of Mylyn and 2.0.1 of WTP.

Cheers

This is in accordance with suggested usage of depends-on and blocks
(i.e. a task is not done until subtasks are done). It reflects usage in
Mozilla's Bugzilla and on the Mylyn project. The corresponding bug is:

If our current approach does not meet your expectations or Bugzilla

be in the same boat and so we should at least add a FAQ entry.

It seems, both the official 2.1 release and the Weekly Build (already

Nothing can be installed and the errors shown by Update Manager don't
seem to make much sense:

The current configuration contains errors and this operation can have
unpredictable results.
WST Web Services UI (2.0.1.v200710021354-792EGwAufYO8FqYlmS_5Ff4sbiKz)
requires plug-in "org.eclipse.gef (3.2.0)", or compatible.
WTP Web Page Editor (1.1.0.v200709202235-3-29oA55P855A) requires
plug-in "org.eclipse.gef (3.2.0)", or compatible.
Java Persistence API Tools (1.1.0.v200709170000-772AgCYQCCz-D_LoCCEH)
requires feature "org.eclipse.datatools.connectivity.feature".
WST Common UI (2.1.0.v200709192200-7C6EIaE9RvTVninpsnWz0WgQZgle)
requires plug-in "org.eclipse.draw2d (3.2.0)", or compatible.

One can even copy such updates manually over the WTP 3 installation, but
while Mylyn works there too as far as I can see, adding further

I might be able to raise this Bug (not sure, which part is the actual

Werner, I assume that you are using the ../e3.4 update sites.

Please do file a bug since this is odd (Mylyn has no dependencies on
WTP) and we should investigate.

Something similar. The Project Explorer context focused UI also seems
to stop working with the WTP J2EE plugins installed. It works fine
with just the WST plugins only installed. I noticed this after
installing 2.1 of Mylyn and 2.0.1 of WTP.

I couldn't reproduce this. If it is still happening please file a Mylyn
bug so that we can diagnose further.
