I dont need latest and greatest of everything. But I should be an easy
setup.

Please suggest what components I need.

You are corect, all you need is to download eclipse, wtp(wtp=webtools)
and tomcat.

The webtools project(WTP) has all the J2EE utilities that you will
probably need for your school project. WTP contains the necessary
plugins get tomcat working with eclipse as a integrated development
environment.

The patckage "Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers" contains WTP and
Eclipse and all the necessary subprojects, you can download this package
at: http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/

After that all you need is tomcat to any directory.

Run eclipse, and from the Preferences > Server > Installed runtimes, add
an entry for the Tomcat server you downloaded.

You are now ready to develop J2EE applications.

Perhaps the "Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers" packaged download found
at http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/ would work for you. You would need
a separate Tomcat installation if you wanted to use Tomcat as your
server, but that would be sufficient to get running.
