I have read the sections in the eclipse help on adding extension points
but I don't really understand what I need to do to add the mail server as
OSEE tells me I need to for e-mail to work.

Is anyone able to point me in the right direction please?

In OSEE 0.7.0, the extension point
org.eclipse.osee.framework.jdk.core.DefaultMailServer is used to set the
default email server. The OSEE administrator would need to create an
Eclipse plug-in java project, extend this extension point in the
plugin.xml (in that newly created plug-in project), and then deploy this
plug-in as part of the client.

In OSEE 0.8.2, this was changed to be more easily and dynamically
configured using the artifact editor. Please see
http://wiki.eclipse.org/OSEE/Developers_Guide#Datastore_Pref erences_.28via_Global_Preferences_artifact.29
for how to do this. The attribute to set is "osee.config.Default Mail
Server".
