Here's an idea for EclipseCon2006. Set up a room with a camera exclusively for usability testing while the conference is running. People would wander in, do a usability test and comment on the software, then leave and the next person would come in. People could also just come in to watch somebody else perform the test, and write down their observations to share with the project team.

We'll have 1000+ captive users, why not take advantage of that? Projects large and small could sign up ahead of time for time slots in the usability lab and bring their own computer to test on. At the end of the time slot they'd be given the videotape and all the feedback to take home.

The following post made me think of this: http://www.eclipsezone.com/eclipse/forums/m91936886.html

What do you think?

I think that's a great idea, Ed. Sign me up as a volunteer tester for the
few projects down my alley of knowledge.

Ed,
How's about you submit a proposal to EclipseCon for this and let the
community express their interest? Denis will vote for it; I'll vote for
it; I'll bet others will too. Use the "Code Camp" type of submission.
