How to install egit plugin on Eclipse 3.7.1 (Indigo)? [message #793122]

Hi,

I am somewhat new to Eclipse. I have Eclipse 3.7.1 (Indigo) installed on an ubuntu linux server. My understanding is that egit should be a part of this version of Eclipse. But I can not find it. Nor, can I find where to download the egit plugin for this version of Eclipse. My server is in a lab that has no external connection to the internet, so I need to add this plugin manually... any ideas?

You can grab the latest build as a zip from here:

https://hudson.eclipse.org/hudson/job/egit/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/org.eclipse.egit-updatesite/target/site/

The zip can be used as local archive to install -- almost. It's off by one level. You'll have to unzip and then re-zip everything under, but not including, 'site'.

Once you have a corrected zip file Do Help -> Install New Software. The click the "Add..." button. In the "Add Repository" popup dialog click "Archive...", then select the zip file from the file browser. Then click "OK".
That should begin the installation of the plugin.

EGit is not yet contained in all Eclipse packages. So it might be necessary to install it after unzipping the package. Though it's contained in the Indigo p2 repository so you should be able to install from the Indigo repository. Alternatively you find the latest version in the Eclipse marketplace [1]. For offline installation you may download the p2 repository of the latest release here [2] as mentioned on the download page [3]. If you want bleeding edge download the p2 repository from Hudson as described in the last post on this thread.
