We use CDateTime with a pattern like "dd.MM.yy".
Is it possible that the year does not expand to 4 digits while entering
the date?

Presently this is not supported, but will be a good feature to have and
should make it into the next release - there are still a few hurdles,
but hopefully it will be out in the next month or two.

In the mean time, you could try the patch Peter Kullman submitted in the
following bug report:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=224665
