Hello!

Closed source software often is protected by some kind of license which
has to be purchased from the software vendor. This license may optionally
specify which application features the user may use. Does anyone know if
there is a framework for this available for the Eclipse RCP?

Hi Christian,

I am not aware of any eclipse project that does this. However, if you use
"eclipse license management" in google then several interesting solutions pop
up.

unfortunately seems to have been discontinued.

I was hoping that some people here already have made experiences with a
license manager themselves.

I'll have another look around the web then.

Coincidentally, I'm thinking about this right now as well. In fact, I just wrote a blog post on it. Perhaps we can discuss technical ideas at least for a quick and dirty version here..

The basic object model??

_Customers have _licence and _maintenance _contracts for _modules of a bigger
_system. The licence contracts have an _expiration-date and a
_number-of-users which could be _fixed or _floating. The licence could also
be connected to _number-of-processors inside a _hardware platform or/and be
based on the _serial number of the processor. The customers receive a
_licencekey which contains/unlocks the encoded licence information. Customers
must be able to _register for _temporary-licences through a _web-application.
The customer must also be able to _trade the licence because of moving to
another _platform/system by which the _original licence would be invalidated.

offline use.

The platform has to check wether plug-ins have been tampered with to
circumvent the licence management system.
