I am completely new to the eclipse platform.
I read documentation on how to get Plugins with the manager but when i connect to the site I get prompted for a Username and password which I do not have.

I tried the u/p i setup for these forums but still not getting through.

What am I supposed to use to download plugins with the manager?

Does the documentation help?

http://help.eclipse.org/galileo/index.jsp?topic=/org.eclipse .platform.doc.user/tasks/tasks-129.htm

I believe you're getting a username/pw because the site you're
connecting to requires one. What are you trying to install?

Specifically PDT

I installed the Eclipse IDE for Java Developers (92 MB) All in one to get started and I want to add in the ability to do PHP Projects

I found the documentation to install it using the Manager but the one site listed in the wiki has no repository.

http://download.eclipse.org/tools/pdt/updates/2.2/interim/

Here is the wiki link I was following;
http://wiki.eclipse.org/PDT/Installation

I even downloaded the zip archive and added it as an archive to the manager and now im getting the error that no repository exists... even in the download...

Time for plan D i guess, Never thought something that was made to sound simple would be such a PITA.

Have you considered grabbing the "Eclipse for PHP Developers" package here?

http://eclipse.org/downloads/

That should be the dead simplest way.

Ok Plan "Im about to pull out my hair" Worked finally...

Twisted Evil

If anyone has as bad of luck as I did this is how i finally got it working.

I removed all the sites in the Download manager
Added back in the Galileo site
http://downloads.eclipse.org/releases/galileo

Added in the Language pack site
DLK 2.0
http://download.eclipse.org/technology/dltk/updates-dev/2.0/

And added the PDT 2.0 Site
http://download.eclipse.org/tools/pdt/updates/2.0/

Open the manager and select the pdt 2.0 site
Then select the run time
Make sure "Contact All update Sites during install to find required software" box is checked

Then install.

Apparently wiping the sites and re-adding them rebuilds meta data.

If someone else has this issue I would highly recommend to just try and add the PDT 2.0 site i listed above to get the install before wiping anything as that will likely work fine.

Eclipse for me will be primarily for Java development, The php portion is a bonus so I grabbed that pack.

Try using this update site:
http://download.eclipse.org/technology/epp/packages/galileo/
It should contain the full PDT package feature that you can install on
top of the Java Dev that you already have.

Hope this helps,
Eric
