cost for Eclipsecon 2008? [message #12336] Fri, 24 August 2007 14:32 Go to next message

I am putting a proposal forth for my attendance at EclipseCon 2008. My
manager has requested to know about costs... How much did the conference
cost last year (or better yet this year)? What was the cost of the
tutorials? Are there special deals being offered on hotels?

Thanks,
Alex

Wow, I just noticed that it is very difficult to find this historical
info from the Eclipse 2007 Web site
(http://www.eclipsecon.org/2007/index.php?page=home/)

I mean, they updated the site daily during the conference, and now that
it's over, all the info about registering is not linked from the main
page (because it's time sensitive).

I did find these via a Google search on "EclipseCon 2007 registration":
http://www.eclipsecon.org/2007/index.php?page=registration/
http://www.eclipsecon.org/2007/index.php?page=hotels/

And Bjorn's rough calculation for EclipseCon 2006:
http://eclipse-projects.blogspot.com/2005/12/open-source-ecl ipsecon-budgeting.html

Usually there is a conference deal on hotels next to the convention
center. Last year though, I found a lower rate at the Holiday Inn that
was a mile walk down the road (18 minutes walking for me). Plus the
convention center is right on the light rail system, so it is easy to
get a hotel room closer to San Jose and take the light rail to the
convention center.

Sorry, it never occurred to me that last year's prices would be useful
information to keep on the conference website. For 2007 the prices were:

Regular attendee $825,$925,$1025,$1125 (Dec 31,Feb 14, Mar 1, on-site)
Tutorials were: $200,$235,$270,$305/unit with a discount for purchasing
multiple units (up to four).
Eclipse Members and Alumni were entitled to additional discounts.

We have not yet decided on the prices for EclipseCon 2008 although the
costs of everything have risen more than you might expect. We will be
posting the prices and opening the registration system the second week
of September if you can wait just a few more days.

We will have both of those rates again this year: a conference center
hotel rate and a rate at the Holiday Inn for people who want to walk (or
rent a Segway or whatever :-)

Bjorn

Bjorn, thanks for this info!

In light of the many times I've seen food "flowing" during the
conference, I do recommend the walking to the hotel, for the exercise
alone. :-)

My manager is requested the same information as alex.

Could you please confirm that the 'Passport' registration was about $825
in 2007 (before Dec 31) ?

The discount of 15% for people who have already attend an EclipseCon
will be still available for 2008 ?

Stephane.
