Eclipse Community ForumsRe: FTP support (drag-n-drop)
https://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/mv/msg/57279/181763/#msg_181763
http://www.eclipse.org/eclipse/platform-team/dev.php reads
" There is also an additional set of plugins available for working with
WebDAV and FTP.
These plugins are not actively being developed but are in a functioning
state."
Like I said, in a previous post I think that not having maintained WebDAV
and FTP support in Eclipse is a big loss to the Eclipse community.
Especially now, since we have PHP IDE, WTP and other projects where its
users usually deploy local file(s) and directory structures to a remote
site.
For people reading this post in eclipse.webtools:
Currently, FTP and WebDAV only supports synchronization. I (and others)
would like to be able to drag-n-drop files between target site and Eclipse
(using Navigator, Explorer etc).
I doubt that drag-n-drop support in FTP and WebDAV wouldn't take long to
implement for someone that is familiar with Eclipse PDE,
but since no one is responsible for the FTP and WebDAV plugins (or is that
still Team?) filing an enhancement report might not be enough.
I therefore ask the development teams of WTP and projects that depends on it
(such as PHP IDE) to make a join effort so that FTP and WebDAV plugins are
maintained again. Having great IDEs aren't enough if Eclipse doesn't provide
an easy and less timeconsuming way to deploy files to remote target.

This is a good idea. Sort of. I'm not sure how much effort it would take,
and
also know the "devlopment teams" are over booked as it is.
But, don't forget, this is an open source project! Which means anyone can
"join" the "development team" by contributing patches.
If you open an enhancement request in WTP, I'd be willing to mark it as
"help wanted",
if you wanted to see if anyone in the larger community of developers was
interested
in contributing. I know several years ago (when we were starting up) a
former PMC member
looked high and low for someone interested in supporting WebDAV but could
not find
anyone.]]>David Williams2006-10-24T13:19:36-00:00Re: FTP support (drag-n-drop)
