Eclipse Community ForumsAgent Controller is unavailable under port 10002

I get the Agent Controller is unavailable (...) error. I am using Eclipse
3.3m6, installed tptp a few days ago so it should be quite new.

I would suggest trying the work-around for running the Agent Controller
on Vista:

Agent Controller, by itself.
(Btw why don't you provide a simple, step-by-step, howto setup the system?
This seems to be a general shortcoming for all the eclipse projects I've
seen so far! Weird...)
So I did this but having installed the controller I still get errors, this
time it is:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not find agent library on the library path or in the local
directory: JPIBootLoader
What is the next step?
Thank you.

TPTP provides all of the necessary support, installation and release
information in the Documentation section at the bottom of each build page.
I would suggest consulting the Installation Guide and Release Notes.

I have opened https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=184203 to
address the usability of our download documentation.

discovery site.
In response to the "Are you sure that you need to read this guide? There
is a default for typical users..." found at the release instructions - yes
I do consider myself a typical user ;)
My Eclipse is plain vanilla from Eclipse.org. OEM operating system,
default everything.
I wasn't aware of a need to install an additional "Agent Controller" until
you mentioned it in the last post.
It seems there is quite some configuring to do with the Agent Controller.
I will give it a try when I have some more time.
Thanks for your help.

All of the supported uses cases in TPTP are supported by the Integrated
Agent Controller which is packaged with TPTP. The user has the choice to
installed and configure the stand-alone Agent Controller.
IF the user opts to install TPTP via the Update Manager, all of the
dependencies are enforced by the TPTP features. However, the user still
needs to consult the product or release documentation of the project they
are installing.

I agree with andreas that the feature is confusing, from what I understand
most developers don't need an agent as shouldn't the "integrated agent", or
the "direct connection" be all thats needed for profiling a runtime
instance?

Yes, the Integrated Agent Controller is sufficient for all local use
cases (e.g. logging, profiling, test execution, etc.). This is covered in
our product documentation:
Specific to this problem on Vista, I was under the impression that
Andreas was using the Agent Controller. However, I would suggest following
the analogous work-around for the Integrated Agent Controller:
Also, whenever there is an issue with the Integrated Agent Controller,
we like to verify the symptoms by running the same scenario using the Agent
Controller.
