Model Development Tools (MDT)

The Model Development Tools (MDT) project focuses on big "M" modeling within the Modeling project. Its purpose is twofold:

  1. To provide an implementation of industry standard metamodels.
  2. To provide exemplary tools for developing models based on those metamodels.

The next release of MDT is tentatively scheduled for the end of June 2009. For the previous release, see 1.1 New & Noteworthy.

Validation (Incubation) PhaseEODM

EODM is an implementation of RDF(S)/OWL metamodels of the Ontology Definition Metamodel (ODM) using EMF with additional parsing, inference, model transformation and editing functions. EODM is part of the IBM Integrated Ontology Development Toolkit (IODT). The proposed ODM standard unifies UML and MOF Standards from OMG and the emerging Semantic Web standards from W3C - RDF (Resource Description Framework) and OWL (Web Ontology Language) specifically. It is the fist coherent effort to integrate Model Driven Technologies and Semantic Web Technologies. EODM uses Eclipse and Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF) to drive this integration. It is the first design and implementation of ODM within the Eclipse, EMF and Semantic Web community. EODM allows users to load a RDF/OWL ontology into EMF-based Java objects, to manipulate and infer the EMF Java objects which represents the RDF/OWL ontology in memory, and to serialize the Java objects to an ontology in RDF/XML syntax. EODM also provides model transformation capabilities between RDF/OWL and other modeling languages, such as ECore, UML and ER etc.

EODM includes the following components:

  1. EMF-based RDF/OWL Model
  2. RDF/OWL parser
  3. RDF/OWL reasoner
  4. RDF/OWL transformer
  5. Basic Workbench which provides basic Eclipse editors for RDF/OWL

An initial EODM documentation is provided.

Validation (Incubation) PhaseBPMN2

BPMN2 is an open source component of the Model Development Tools (MDT) subproject to provide a metamodel implementation based on the forthcoming Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) 2.0 OMG specification.

Validation (Incubation) PhaseIMM

IMM is an open source component of the Model Development Tools (MDT) subproject to provide metamodel/profile implementations based on the forthcoming Information Management Metamodel (IMM) OMG specification.

OCL

OCL is an implementation of the Object Constraint Language (OCL) OMG standard for EMF-based models.

Validation (Incubation) PhaseSBVR

SBVR provides a metamodel implementation and sample tools based on the adopted Semantics of Business Vocabulary and Business Rules (SBVR) OMG specification.

UML2

UML2 is an EMF-based implementation of the UMLTM 2.x metamodel for the Eclipse platform.

Validation (Incubation) PhaseUML2 Tools

UML2 Tools is a set of GMF-based editors for viewing and editing UML models.

XSD

XSD is a library that provides an API for manipulating the components of an XML Schema as described by the W3C XML Schema specifications, as well as an API for manipulating the DOM-accessible representation of XML.

Incubation

Some components are currently in their Validation (Incubation) Phase.
