Help Define the Software-Defined
Vehicle Working Group
Join Bosch, Microsoft, and other industry leaders to develop a new vendor neutral working group focused on building the next-generation vehicles based on the open source model. This recently announced initiative has the ultimate goal to create a vendor-agnostic, open source ecosystem with a vivid, contributing community focused on building the foundation for a new era in automotive software development.
Oniro aspires to become a transparent, vendor neutral, and independent alternative to established IoT and edge operating systems. To achieve this goal and ensure Oniro has a global reach, the Eclipse Foundation and its members intend to deliver an independent implementation and specification that is compatible with OpenHarmony, an open source operating system specified and hosted by the OpenAtom Foundation.
All members are invited to learn more and to participate in the Oniro Working Group.
Eclipse Foundation Is
OpenChain ISO 5230-Conformant
The Eclipse Foundation is the first open source software foundation to confirm that its open source development and license management processes are OpenChain ISO 5230-conformant. This means that all Eclipse Foundation open source projects are developed under an ISO 5230-conformant program which fulfills the license compliance requirements of the standard.
Twenty years ago, the Eclipse project was first launched as open source by IBM. Twenty years later, the Eclipse IDE continues to be relevant to millions of developers worldwide. It has become one of the world’s most popular and prolific desktop development environments.
The Eclipse Foundation Board of Directors recently approved updates to the Eclipse Foundation Specification Process. The updates were introduced to offer greater flexibility to individual specification-based projects, better enabling them to develop and evolve to meet their specific objectives while adhering to the basic principles of the open specification process.

OSS Good Governance Handbook Now Available
Collaboratively developed in the framework of the OW2 Open Source Good Governance initiative, the OSPO Alliance has produced the OSS Good Governance Handbook. The handbook introduces a methodology to implement professional management of open source software in an organization. It addresses the need to use open source software properly and fairly, safeguarding organizations from technical, legal, and IP threats, and maximizing for them the advantages of open source.
For more world-class materials on good governance for open source in Open Source Program Offices (OSPO) visit OSPO.zone. Eclipse Foundation is proud to be one of the founding organizations of OSPO Alliance.
Featured Working Group: OpenHW Group
The OpenHW Group is an independent not-for-profit, global organization where hardware and software designers collaborate in the development of open source cores, related IP, tools, and software using industry best practices. OpenHW Group provides an infrastructure for hosting high-quality open source hardware developments in line with industry best practices.
While OpenHW Group is an independent organization, OpenHW Group Platinum, Gold, and Silver members are all also members of Eclipse Foundation, and the two organizations work collaboratively in many facets. Further, Eclipse Foundation has announced the intention to create two separate working groups, Eclipse OpenHW Europe and OpenHW Asia, to bring focus on regional-based open hardware-related topics of interest to our shared OpenHW Group members.
