EclipseCon Europe: Submit a Talk, Secure a Sponsorship

It’s that time of year again! You can now submit your proposals to be part of EclipseCon Europe 2019’s speaker lineup. With new tracks such as 'Welcome to Open Source' and a full track dedicated to 'IoT & Edge', we encourage all members to either propose a talk or to make suggestions of topics they would like to hear about!

The conference takes place in Ludwigsburg, Germany on October 21 - 24, 2019. Early bird submissions are due July 1, and the final deadline is July 15.

EclipseCon Europe is a great opportunity for member companies to connect with the community through sponsorship. We normally sell out of booth space, so check out the online prospectus, or email us for more information.

June Update Eclipse Committer and Contributor Agreement Update

You will recall the Foundation updated its Committer and Contribution Agreements last fall, and we have been contacting members, committers and contributors during the first half of 2019.  For a reminder of the motivation, please revisit Mike’s blog.

As we are nearing the end of this campaign, we would like to share the following status:

Eclipse Individual Committer Agreements

Following several communications, we have now sent final notices to Individual Committers who have not yet updated to the Individual Committer Agreement Version 4.0.  We truly hope individual committers will give this their full attention in order to avoid having their committer account temporarily locked until we receive the required updated agreement.

If you have not heard from us and feel you should have or if you are unsure of your status, please reach out to  emo_records@eclipse.org.

Eclipse Contributor Agreements

All Eclipse Contribution Agreements that predated Version 3.0 have been expired. If you need to sign a new one, please resign it here.

Member Committer and Contributor Agreements

Eclipse specification projects are distinct projects intended to enable contributions of intellectual property rights including patent rights.  As a result, member organizations wishing to participate in Eclipse specification projects must execute this updated agreement.  As a result, our Membership Co-ordination Team have been engaging personally with our members.

Member organizations that have not yet executed or updated their Member Committer Agreement may do so by contacting Eclipse Membership

As a reminder, as a benefit of the new Member Committer and Contributor Agreement, employees of member organizations that have executed the updated Agreement no longer need to execute a separate Individual Committer Agreement nor an Eclipse Contributor Agreement.

Please feel free to visit our FAQ on this topic. Any questions, comments, or concerns may be sent to license@eclipse.org.

Thank you to the Eclipse Community for your support of this campaign and for helping make Eclipse a great community for creating innovative technologies through both specifications and software using a vendor-neutral process!

Jakarta EE Working Group Committee Elections

Members of the Jakarta EE Working Group are reminded that elections for committee representatives will be held this month. The nomination period closed June 4, and ballots will be distributed to eligible voters beginning June 11.

The winning candidates will be announced on this mailing list immediately after the elections have concluded. Thank you to all who agreed to stand for election.

Announcing OpenMobility Working Group

On May 13 2019, the Eclipse Foundation announced the launch of the openMobility Working Group. The openMobility Working Group will focus on open and shared collaboration around one of the major issues in urban planning around autonomous vehicles and future transportation requirements -- traffic simulation and modeling.

To learn more, please see our official press release (and make this the link), and to join the conversation please join the OpenMobility working group mailing list (and add a link to the page where I can join the mailing list).

ICYMI: IoT Day / Tech Talk / New Case Study

Eclipse IoT Day Santa Clara was a huge success! We’d like to say a big thank you to all our speakers and community members for joining us for this event, co-located with IoT World 2019.

If you were not able to attend the event, we’ve compiled all the talk recordings in a Youtube playlist.

Watch the latest Jakarta Tech Talk on Effective Docker and Kubernetes for Java EE / Jakarta EE Developers with Reza Rahman here. This entirely slide-less, fast-paced, demo-driven session walks through several key trade-offs to consider while using Docker and Kubernetes with Java EE applications

Did you know industry leaders like RedHat, Eurotech, and Cloudera are working together to accelerate the development of enterprise IoT solutions? These industry leaders turned to the Eclipse IoT Working Group to overcome common challenges and provide their customers with an end-to-end IoT solution in our new case study!

Eclipse VOLTTRON Users Meeting

Join the community at the 6th Annual Eclipse VOLTTRON Users Meeting, scheduled for August 29 - 30, 2019. The event takes place at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in Richland, Washington, and is being co-hosted by PNNL and Eclipse Foundation. Eclipse VOLTTRON was originally developed at PNNL, where it serves as an important and versatile resource for creating a flexible and reliable power grid.

This year's meeting will focus on real-world applications of VOLTTRON, future collaborative opportunities, and technical upgrades that improve VOLTTRON's usability. Visit this site for more information and registration.
