The categories for submission this year include Runtime, C/C++, Tools, Mobile and Embedded, Modeling, Reporting, SOA, Test & Performance, Emerging Technology, and Business and Industry Verticals.
If you have expertise building and working with Eclipse, share your knowledge with the Eclipse community by making a submission today. Details can be found on the EclipseCon web site. The deadline for tutorial and talk proposals is November 24, 2008.

The Eclipse Foundation is pleased to announce the keynote speakers for the Eclipse Summit Europe conference, to be held November 19-20 in Ludwigsburg, Germany. The two keynote speakers will be:
- David Wood, Executive VP Research at Symbian. Mr. Wood’s talk ‘Why Should the Mobile World Go Open Source?’ will be his reflections on the possible upsides and downsides when open source software systems are applied in the fast-moving helter-skelter world of mobile phones.
- Dave Thomas, Founder and Chairman of Bedarra Research Labs. Mr. Thomas’s talk ‘Next Generation Embedded Software – The Imperative Is Agility!’ will speak to new ideas in embedded product development.

In June and July, Eclipse held a Ganymede Around the World Contest for individuals to submit their reviews of the Ganymede release. Over 600 reviews and messages were received from more than 70 different countries. All submissions can be seen on the Ganymede Around the World map. The reviews have been judged and the results are in.

Eclipse and OMG are jointly organising two one-day symposia to promote and build on the partnership between Eclipse's open source software and OMG's open standards - one as part of EclipseCon 2008 in Santa Clara, the other during the OMG Technical Meeting in Ottawa. Each symposium will be organised as a series of discussion sessions on corresponding OMG standards and Eclipse projects. In each case the purpose will be to discuss the alignment between current standard and implemented software, and identify areas where the cooperation could be further improved in future.

- Eclipse Hibachi Project Unites Ada Suppliers in Common Environment posted Nov 05, 2007
The Eclipse Foundation today announced the creation of a new open-source project called Hibachi. The Hibachi project provides an industrial-strength, vendor-neutral Ada integrated development environment (IDE) that also serves as a platform for other contributors to provide value-added functionality for Ada developers. Hibachi is a sub-project of the Eclipse Tools Project, and it parallels and complements CDT, the C/C++ Development Tooling project, providing a multi-language native embedded software development environment. The name Hibachi is an anagram honoring the late Jean Ichbiah, lead designer of the Ada language.

The Eclipse Foundation is hosting its Eclipse Summit Europe conference for the European community again this year. The second annual Eclipse Summit Europe (ESE) takes place on October 9-11, 2007 at Forum am Schlosspark in Ludwigsburg, which is in the Stuttgart region of Germany. The goal of the conference is to give the European Eclipse community a platform to collaborate, to promote cooperation among Eclipse projects, and to provide information to attendees about the Eclipse Foundation and its members. The Eclipse Foundation expects ESE to have a mixture of lectures covering Eclipse projects, consumer stories, and product demonstrations. The symposia is also an exciting event for the Eclipse ecosystem.

Something we would like to accomplish during the Europa release is to make it easier for our user community to download Eclipse. The existing download model requires you to start with the SDK and then start adding projects and features. However, for the millions of Eclipse users the SDK is a bit of overkill, if you are really just are using Eclipse as a Java IDE. Or if you want to use Eclipse as a C/C++ IDE it is not that obvious what to download when you visit our download page.

The Eclipse Foundation today announced three new project milestones that extend the Eclipse platform for Ajax applications and dynamic languages. The three projects include the Eclipse Rich Ajax Platform (RAP), the Eclipse Ajax Toolkit Framework (ATF) and the Eclipse Dynamic Language Toolkit (DLTK). These projects provide innovative new Eclipse-based technology to be utilized by Ajax developers and developers using dynamic languages such as Python, Ruby and Tcl.

EclipseCon 2007, the fourth annual Eclipse community conference, opens today at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif. Attendees from around the world are expected to hear the latest Eclipse developments and discuss key business and technical issues facing the community. Scott Adams, creator of the comic strip Dilbert, will give the opening keynote presentation. Additional keynote addresses will be delivered by Robert “r0ml� Lefkowitz, a noted enterprise architect and systems designer, and Dr. Herbert Thompson, an expert on application security and chief security strategist for Security Innovation.

Based on working code from the two projects and the larger community of open source developers, the teams have created a reference application that showcases open source identity services that are interoperable with Microsoft’s Windows* CardSpace* identity management system and enable Liberty Alliance-based identity federation via Novell® Access Manager. This reference application is a first-of-its-kind open source identity system that features interoperability with leading platforms and protocols. This ground-breaking work will be demonstrated at the upcoming RSA Conference in San Francisco.

The Eclipse Foundation, an open source community committed to the implementation of a universal development platform, today announced the release of the Eclipse Data Tools Platform (DTP) 1.0, a collection of extensible frameworks and exemplary tools for developing data-centric applications in the Eclipse environment. With DTP 1.0, developers can now easily leverage existing data sources, such as enterprise databases, within the extensible Eclipse Platform. Data-related applications are growing in significance, so this release meets an important development requirement in the software industry.

The Eclipse Training Working Group has completed its survey of the community and the results are available at http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Training_Working_Group
The survey was responded to by over 600 people and although its not a truly scientific sample, it does provide some very good insights into the area of Eclipse training and education which should be useful to us all.
Thanks to all the people who contributed to the development of the survey, to the community members who participated, and especially to Donald Smith who supported the Working Group in using "Survey Monkey"
to prepare questionnaire and analyze the results.
